Your EMSense Massager — setup, first charge & how to use it

Ten minutes of reading here will save you a lot of guessing. Start with the first-charge section if the lights flicker and go dark on day one — that is normal.

Step zero

What's in the box

A simple kit — if something looks missing, check the packing carefully before contacting support.

1× EMSense Triple-Technology Massager

The foot/hand wrap with heat, massage pulses, gentle compression, and the control panel for intensity, heat, and timer.

1× power / charging cord

Charges the unit and can power it during a session. Keep this cord — it is the one the device is designed for.

Ordered the 2-pack? You get two complete sets — two massagers and two cords, packed separately.

The first charge — and the flickering lights everyone asks about

If you plug your new massager in and the lights blink on for a second and then go dark — no heat, no massage, nothing — your unit is almost certainly fine. Here is what is happening and exactly what to do.

Why the lights flicker and die on day one

Devices with built-in batteries are required to ship at a deliberately low charge. When you first plug yours in, there is not yet enough power to start a full program — so the controls light up, the unit checks itself, finds the battery too low, and shuts back down to protect itself.

It looks exactly like a dead device. It is not. Leave it plugged in and it will wake up.

Charge it for 3–4 hours before you use it

Use the cord that came in the box and a normal wall outlet. Avoid laptop USB ports, car chargers and multi-way hubs — they often cannot deliver enough current.

Keep it plugged in for the full 3–4 hours even if the lights go dark after a few seconds.

3–4 hours · first time only

Do the long-press reset

Once it has charged, press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds, then release. This clears the protective sleep state from shipping.

The control lights should now stay on rather than fading out.

Hold 15–20 seconds

Reseat the cord, then start a session normally

Unplug, push the cord firmly back in at both ends — the wall and the device — and press power with a normal short press.

Sit or recline comfortably, wrap EMSense around your feet (or hands/ankles), and fasten the straps before choosing your settings.

Still nothing? We replace it — no argument.

If it is fully charged, you have done the long-press reset, and it still will not run, email us your order number and a short video of what happens when you press power. We will help under the 1-year warranty.

Charging habits after day one

Top it up when the lights start dimming rather than running it flat every time. A full top-up takes roughly 2–3 hours. You can also leave it plugged in during a session if you prefer.

Everyday use

How to use it in a session

No complicated setup. Slip it on, press a button, choose massage intensity, heat level, and duration — then relax while Triple Technology works.

Wrap it around your feet

Sit or recline. Slide your feet into the massager and fasten the adjustable straps for a comfortable fit (fits most sizes). You can also use it on hands or ankles the same way.

Remain seated or reclined during use — do not walk around while wearing it.

Choose your settings

Select massage intensity, heat level, and timer on the control panel. There are three massage intensity levels (often shown by different colors), three heating levels, and timer options of 10 / 20 / 30 minutes.

Let Triple Technology run

Heat helps support circulation, massage pulses help stimulate tired nerves, and gentle compression wraps your feet in supportive pressure. You do not need to change settings mid-session unless you want to.

Relax for 10–30 minutes

Use it while watching TV, reading, or winding down. When the timer ends, unfasten the straps and stand up slowly.

10–30 min · 1–2× daily

Do

  • Start on a lower intensity for the first few sessions
  • Use it at the same time each day — consistency beats intensity
  • Keep straps snug but comfortable — not painfully tight
  • Stay seated or reclined while it is running
  • Combine evening sessions with rest for better sleep routines

Don't

  • Walk, stand, or drive while wearing the massager
  • Fall asleep with it running or leave it unattended
  • Use it on broken, irritated, or infected skin
  • Push through sharp pain — stop and check with your doctor
  • Run back-to-back max sessions on day one
Building the habit

A sensible first month

You do not need to ramp up aggressively. Adjust to how your feet actually respond.

WhenSessionWhat you are likely to notice
Days 1–3 10–15 min, once daily, lower intensity Warmth and gentle massage through the feet. Some people feel mildly worked afterwards — that is expected.
Days 4–10 15–20 min, once daily Evening burning or tingling often eases first. Standing after long days may feel less draining.
Week 2–3 20–30 min, once or twice daily Many users report better sleep and less nighttime foot discomfort with consistent use.
Week 4 onward 15–30 min, daily maintenance Keep going daily — most people notice tightness return if they stop for a week.

Best time of day

Evening suits most people — after being on your feet all day, and right before rest. If mornings are your worst, use it then instead. The time you will actually do it every day is the right one.

Looking after it

Care & storage

Very little maintenance — these habits help it last.

Keep it happy

  • Wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth, then dry it
  • Unplug it before cleaning, always
  • Store it flat/folded loosely somewhere dry and out of direct sun
  • Top the battery up every couple of months if it sits unused
  • Coil the cord loosely rather than folding it sharply

Avoid

  • Submerging it or cleaning it under running water
  • Solvents, bleach or abrasive cleaners on the surface
  • Storing it in a car, garage or anywhere that freezes or bakes
  • Stacking heavy things on top of it
  • Using a third-party cord that did not come with it

Safety & who should check with a doctor first

Talk to your doctor before using it if you

are pregnant; have a pacemaker or any implanted electronic device; have severe circulatory disease, open wounds on the feet/hands, or recent foot/ankle surgery; have reduced sensation from advanced neuropathy or diabetes and cannot feel heat safely; or have an unexplained foot condition your clinician is still evaluating.

Stop using it and seek advice if

you get sharp or worsening pain during a session, unusual swelling, skin burns/irritation, or new numbness or weakness that concerns you.

For external use only. Never use it while asleep, in the bath, or anywhere wet. Keep it away from children and pets. This is a wellness device, not a medical treatment, and it does not replace advice from your clinician.

Troubleshooting

Most day-one messages are one of the first issues below — and most have a fix that takes minutes.

This is the day-one classic and it is a flat battery, not a fault. Units ship at a deliberately low charge for safety. Plug it in with the included cord for 3–4 hours — keep it plugged in even though the lights went dark — then hold the power button for 15–20 seconds to reset it.
Check three things. First, the outlet: use a wall socket, not a laptop USB port or multi-way hub. Second, both ends of the cord — push each in firmly. Third, try a different wall outlet. If none of that helps, contact us.
Confirm you selected intensity and heat on the panel (not just power). Start on a mid setting for 10–15 minutes while seated. Make sure straps are snug so the wrap contacts your feet. If it still feels dead after a full charge and reset, send us a short video.
Lower the heat level and put a thin sock between your skin and the wrap if needed. Never use heat on an area with reduced sensation without medical guidance. If it feels genuinely burning rather than warm, stop and contact us.
That is usually the low-battery cut-out. Charge it fully — 2–3 hours for a top-up — or leave it plugged in while you use it.
Loosen the straps and reposition. The wrap is designed to fit most sizes; for very large or swollen feet, fasten more loosely and focus coverage on the soles/arches. Contact us if fit is still impossible.
Email us your order number plus a short video showing what happens when you press power. Manufacturing defects are covered for 1 year, and you also have a money-back window after delivery.

Still stuck? Talk to a human.

Send your order number and a short video of what the device does when you press power. We answer every day, and we would much rather fix it than have you give up on it.
